HIKER Floor Upgrade

Date

šŸ“Virtuocity, University of Leeds, UK

As part of our continued work to upgrade our research facilities and enable new and innovative experimental techniques we are thrilled to have completed an upgrade to the Highly Immersive Kinematic Experimental Research (HIKER) Lab. It's been over 6 years since HIKER was commissioned and this new modular floor will allow us to create, where required, a platform for objects such as road infrastructure to be securely mounted to the floor allowing for even more immersive interaction with our experiments.

Over the period of three weeks the previous projection floor was removed, the lab floor secured and levelled and an all new aluminium framed projection floor installed. In addition to this, the projection surface has been extended and ramp added to allow participants with reduced mobility to access the facility, opening up opportunities to conduct research with participants who use wheelchairs as well as increase comfort for those who use walking aids. A time lapse video of the install is at the top of this page.

With thanks to our friends at STEngineering Antycip and Visual Displays Ltd who have conducted the work.
