Professor Oliver Carsten co-authored a report for the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) with Dr. Shaun Helman of Transport Research Laboratory, on the importance of standardisation of vehicle controls and the driver interface with driver assistance systems.

Established in 1981, PACTS promotes evidence-based solutions to achieve safe transport for all. The unique features of PACTS are that it is a multi-modal transport safety body and focuses on working with UK parliamentarians, government, professionals and other key stakeholders. Professor Carsten acted as Chair of the Road User Behaviour Working Party of PACTS until December 2018.
